Set Ups

Proper Set-up of any instrument begins with proper neck relief. This is all contingent on current fret conditiions and heights. Bridge string height is then set and then nut string slot height is then set.

There are several different type of "set ups:"

Mandolin or acoustic guitar/bass - bone saddles and nuts must be properly fashioned, in order to provide optimal intonation and response. Especially instruments using an under-saddle Piezo pickup.

Electric Hard-Tail - Les Paul and other non-tremolo type bridge systems.

Electric Non-Locking Tremolo - Bigsby or Fender type tremolo bridges without secondary string locking at the nut.

Electric Locking Tremolo - Floyd Rose, Kahler, Ibanez Edge just to name a few, where the strings are locked on both ends of the fretboard providing you maximum tuning stability.

Other instruments include: violins, cello's, double (upright) bass and other stringed instruments are very similar, but each has it's own way of properly being set-up.

We have done them all here in our shop.

Incredible Knowledge and a Tone Expert's Mind

    Electronics

In our shop, electronics work involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the electrical components within guitars and basses, particularly electric guitars - but also the pre-amp systems fouind in today's acoustic instruments!
  • Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Identifying the source of problems such as: no sound, intermittent signals, buzzing, crackling, or poor sound quality. This might involve using tools like multimeters to test components or signal tracing with an oscilloscope.
  • Repair and Replacement: Fixing or replacing faulty components like: pickups, potentiometers (volume/tone knobs), switches, capacitors, or output jacks. This often requires proper soldering skills and a complete understanding of electrical circuits.
  • Maintenance: Performing routine tasks to prevent issues, such as: cleaning potentiometers and switches to prevent oxidation and ensure smooth operation.
  • Customization and Upgrades: Modifying a guitar's electronics to suit a customer's specific needs or tastes. This could involve installing different types of pickups, altering wiring configurations (like coil-splitting or phase switching), or upgrading components like potentiometers and capacitors to enhance tone and performance.
  • Ensuring the guitar's electronics are properly connected and functioning in harmony with other elements like: string height for optimal playability and sound.
  • We have a comprehensive understanding of how pickups create the guitar's signal, how different components shape the sound, and how that signal is transferred to your amplification system.
